The perils of photography are immense.
What I’m talking about is the value of it all.
I enjoy taking pictures and have taken lots of pictures throughout my life.
Minolta was my first camera, a 35mm system. It was expensive to use.
Then I bought a Kodak digital camera, a point and click camera.
That was a game changer for me. Now I could take as many
pictures as I wanted and it didn’t cost anything more! A Canon T3i was
the next camera. Right after that purchase I bought a Canon 70D.
These cameras weren’t that expensive and did offer more options
for photography. I bought some zoom lenses that could be used on both
cameras. I enjoy walking through the forest taking pictures of animals.
Then came the cell phones. I didn’t think much about cell phone cameras
initially. But, over time those phone cameras improved a lot.
Now I think in many ways there is no reason to purchase an expensive
digital camera. You don’t get a better picture for most people’s needs.
So now what? I think it’s still worth buying a good digital camera.
I believe the dedicated digital cameras still have a usefulness.
Now most pictures I take using my Canon cameras are of landscapes
and telephoto pictures. Canon is still better for nature pictures.
The cell phone camera is better when the subject is close.
Another important consideration with good digital cameras is the
cost of lenses. Goods zoom and fixed length lenses are expensive.
Your cell phone camera doesn’t need any more lenses
you don’t have to spend more money!
The next problem is what to do with all those pictures!
Do you ever go back and look at any of your old pictures?
If you’re thinking about buying a dedicated digital camera
be sure to consider used equipment. It’s usually cheaper
and still good for anything you plan to do.
