Tiny Homes are too Expensive.
I have been looking at community for tiny homes. What I found was not good.
They are mostly trying to sell you an overpriced mobile home.
You would be better off with a used RV. That would cost less money.
I see tiny home communities fleecing people trying to downsize or
find a small home. The prices they are asking are obscene. I see asking prices
for 400 sq ft mini homes for $70K to $150K! You can beat this price as a DIY project.
A used RV about 32 feet would cost a lot less money.
Home Depot and others sell small homes between $10k to $50k!
Buy a small parcel of land, drill a well and you have a nice home for a
lot less money. Tiny home communities I see are just RV parks.
You will have monthly rent to pay, and you know next year
your rent will increase. You should consider buying your own property.
Make sure to check the zoning laws for the property before you buy.
Many communities ban mini homes with zoning laws.
Purchasing a mini home?
If you are planning to purchase a mini home, be careful because
contractors are charging too much money. Mini homes are cheap and fast
to make. Make sure you shop around for a good contractor if you are not
building the home yourself. Also, if you need to fix one it will not bankrupt you.
Find land and get the mini home moved to it. You will have to put
in your own water well. The septic system you can use a composting system.
Composting systems are not expensive, and it is legal. You will only owe
the taxes on the property instead of lot rent.
There is nothing wrong with living in an RV, but there are issues.
We have lived in small 18-foot and 36-foot RVs,
and they are wonderfully comfortable. The only problem was in the
winter. The walls are only about one inch thick. The windows are not
thermal panes. There is just one piece of glass. The cold comes right in.
In the chilly winter, we had to work at staying warm. The walls radiated cold.
There might be a big advantage to having a mini home.
The walls will be thicker and insulated. The windows will be
thermal pane which will be better in both winter and summer.
