Retire to a small town in the south.
It will be a lot cheaper to live there than in Florida.
You should consider S. Carolina, Alabama, Louisiana,
Arizonia, New Mexico and other southern states.
Many of these small towns and villages are empty.
Young people don’t want to live there. There is no work for
them, so they move to big urban areas. That’s a retirement
opportunity. It will be much cheaper to buy and maintain a
home there than in St. Petersburg, Orlando or Daytona.
Keith Lucas has a video on 5 Best Small Towns for Retirement in SC.

Florida retirement is a bad idea!
Florida is not a good destination for folks planning their retirement.
Everything is overpriced and too big.
Florida has a serious condo crisis going on.
Lots of Wallstreet speculators are buying up properties.
Speculators are buying lots of RV and mobile home parks.
The people living there in mobile homes can’t move.
Wallstreet people know that. First thing they do is up the rent.
They know the people there can’t leave!
The state of Florida enacted new laws that all condos near water,
and over 30 years old, must be inspected for structural problems.
Many fail the inspections. Then the law says all reserve funds
for repairs must be fully funded. Condo owners are receiving
large assessments that they must pay right away.
Most don’t have the money, so the condo must be sold.
Worse is the new HOA fees being charged. All their expenses have
increased. Especially insurance because of the hurricanes.
That’s happening all over Florida. Hedge fund people are
buying up condos for a dime on a dollar. Owners either take the offer
or lose their equity in a bankruptcy. No bank will finance a condo purchase,
and no insurance company will insure it.
If you want a good peaceful retirement don’t go to Florida.
Pick another southern state for retirement.
You should spend your money in another southern state.
I’ve heard about great deals that can be had in small towns.
The towns have real estate and no people to sell it to.
You can get a great deal in one of these towns.
For a little more money, you can fix the house up.
That is the most frugal way to retire. Stay out of Florida!
This is a great opportunity for retired folks to live well for less money.
The deals I’ve seen were abandoned homes that you can bid on.
I watched videos about towns and villages in Alabama where you
can make an offer on the real estate. The town will usually take the deal.
They need people to live there and want to make it easy as possible.
If you bid low and the local government accepts the bid
then you have a cheap home. Your only responsibility is maintenance of the
property and local taxes. That will cost you a lot less money than moving
to Florida and buying a condo or mobile home.
