Building with wood?

Mini Home Shed

Why are Americans using wood to build homes?
Wood is not a good durable product.
It is easily blown down by the wind.
It burns and is expensive to buy. You have to destroy a
forest for it.
Bugs like to eat wood, and mold grows great on it.

Maybe building a very small building that isn’t going to last long
might be ok. By long I mean 20 or 30 years. A 700 square foot building
wouldn’t cost much using wood.
If it is destroyed, it would be easy to replace.

Here in Florida
I watch contractors building large apartment buildings

using all wood. In Florida the last thing you should do is build
a large building made from wood. They increase the odds of dying in
a fire
. You’ll have to get out if there is a hurricane coming. Wood is
not a good building material especially for large buildings.

I’ve heard that contractors use wood because it’s relatively cheap, fast
and easy
to work with. They just want to build fast and get their money out.
If people would move towards smaller buildings made with cement blocks
it would be less money and much safer. It won’t blow down like a wooden
building. It won’t burn and bugs don’t eat concrete!
The key is making smaller buildings.

Contractors don’t like smaller. The money is in McMansions.
Let’s build smarter and better.
